US and Non-US Resident Tax FAQ
What is a Tax Identification Number?
A Tax Identification Number (TIN) is a unique nine-digit number that identifies you to the Internal Revenue Service. Both U.S. and non-U.S. residents need a tax identification number to file an income tax return. Typically, individuals receive a Social Security Number (SSN), while entities are issued an Employer Identification Number (EIN). If you don’t have a TIN, we’re here to help you apply for one.
What's the difference between W-9 vs. W-8 BEN?
One key difference between W-9 and W-8 forms is that W-9 forms are used by U.S. citizens and resident aliens to submit their taxpayer identification number (TIN) to employers or other entities.
In contrast, W-8 forms are used by foreign individuals or entities who are not U.S. citizens or residents but have earned income or worked in the U.S. These forms help them claim tax treaty benefits and manage U.S. tax withholding.
I'm a foreign artist, am I eligible to reclaim the withholding tax deducted from performances in the US?
Foreign artists who have had U.S. income tax withheld from their performances can be eligible to reclaim the withheld tax as long as they have a Tax Identification Number. If you don’t have one, we’ll help you apply for it.
Can you help me with tax refunds for multiple years or just the current tax year?
Yes, we can help with tax refunds for multiple years, not just the current tax year.
